Muisca

Brief
Adriana - a vivacious Colombian, living in Fernie, is the owner of Muisca Coffee. The company is direct trade with single origin coffee beans and she travels to meet each farmer personally.

She already had an established brand with and just wanted an update to the packaging, but it became clear that there was a disconnect between the name and logo. More emphasis needed to be put on the name itself - Muisca - the Native American tribe that lived in Colombia between 600 CE and 1600 CE, known for their phenomenal gold artwork. Another area that needed work was distinguishing the labels from each other - different beans, farmers and drying processes.

Solution
After researching a range of artefacts and statues, a face was created that we incorporated into the logo. The packaging was simplified and changed to a matte bag. Some crucial updates where made to bring the bag up to code, namely nutritional facts and bilingual labels (French on one side, and English on the other), making distribution outside of BC possible.

The new labels were colour coded - giving information about tasting notes, roast, origin bean and drying process, along with location name and signature of the farmer.

Fernie Distillers

Brief
Branding for Fernie Distillers, the first distillery in Fernie - producing high quality small batch vodka and gin. The product line starts with No 9 Mine Vodka, Fernie Fog Liqueur and will grow to include a variety of infusions, unique barrel-aged and seasonal batches.

Inspired by a culture historically rich in prospecting, mining and bootlegging - the branding needed to reflect that whilst remaining simple, engaging and distinctive.

Solution
Combining clean typography and graphic icons with historical images lead to a contemporary yet personable brand. Using a vibrant but muted colour palette, borrowed from the natural landscape of the valley, added a distinctive look.
